Introduction:

The Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Canada is a non-profit, charitable organization. From its inception in 1983, its mandate has been to lobby regulation of TCM and Acupuncture in Canada for the best interests of the public and to protect the high reputation of the TCM community and the protection of endangered species in partnership with World Wildlife Fund. The Chinese and Acupuncture Association of Canada holds continuing education seminars for its members and the public with visiting lectures and professors giving lectures on a number of topics. The most recent lecture was held on March 1, 2009 with Prof. Qi Cai Wang from Nanjing University of TCM, China speaking.

There are eight chapter offices across Canada along with chapters in Taiwan and Hong Kong. As of 2009, regulation for TCM and Acupuncture is in place in Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, the profession is recognized in Saskatchewan under the province’s health policy, and the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario has been established to regulate traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture in Ontario. CMAAC continues to lobby government and legislators for the regulation of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture across Canada, and to promote traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture to the public.
